IOC Centre, LanzaTech team up to develop micro-algae technology
IOC-DBT Centre for Advanced Bio-Energy Research, a recent joint venture between Indian Oil and the Department of Biotechnology, has entered into an agreement with LanzaTech to accelerate the development process of micro-algae technology, the research centre said.
Under the agreement, both parties would develop an acetate-to-lipids pathway and evaluate its compatibility with the CO2 gas fermentation technology. The research would facilitate integration of algae growth with the waste gas fermentation process of producing ethanol.
CO2 gas fermentation technology is an innovative technology developed by LanzaTech, which uses the gas streams that are the sources of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen. These streams are produced by converting the solid wastes, residual biomass and residual gases released from industries to syngas.
All the patents and commercial rights shall be vested in the research centre.
