INTERTANKO drafts energy management plan for tankers

The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO) has developed a draft Ship Energy Management Plan (SEMP) specifically for tankers. The tanker SEMP is supposed to facilitate a harmonized and comprehensive recording and reporting of fuel efficiency information and aims to achieve an efficient CO2 emissions reduction from tankers. Such operational measures already being actively investigated and applied by the shipping industry include more frequent hull/propeller cleaning, alternative coatings, better route planning, and speed management.
