Institute in Vietnam comes up with fuel-saving device

The Institute for Materials Science at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology announced that it was able to create a fuel-saving device, which can be attached to car and motorbike engines. Dubbed Economax A92, the device uses a metal alloy catalyst, which reacts with fuel upon contact, to enhance fuel combustion and reduce the concentration of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in exhaust fumes. Tests conducted on vehicles equipped with Economax showed that cars can save between 8.4 and 16.2% of petrol, while motorbikes can save between 10.6 and 14.5% of fuel. Inventor Tran Le Hung from the institute’s research division said that Economax’s efficiency depends on the engine capacity of cars and motorbikes. The device has recently been marketed and distributed as Economax Fuel Catalyst by Pakistan-based company Malik & Associates. (February 7, 2009)
