India’s PM dedicates new Bina oil refinery
Manmohan Singh, the prime minister of India, was on hand to dedicate the opening of the new ultra modern 125,000 barrel per day (BPD) Bina oil refinery in Madhya Pradesh. The new refinery will increase India’s refining capacity by 27% or 238 million tons by 2012. He said, “I am happy that our refining capacity, which was 620 lakh tons in 1998, has now become 1,870 lakh tons. By 2012, we are working toward enhancing this capacity to 2,380 lakh tons.” The new refinery was constructed by Bharat Oman Refineries, which is a joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (BPCL) and Oman Oil Co. The state-of-the-art technology of the new plant will be able to produce Euro III- and IV-compliant petroleum products. The new refinery is expected to employ more than 5,000 people. (May 23,2011)
