India will go for corporate average fuel economy standards

India is tweaking its fuel efficiency norms so that these are measured across different cars made by a company rather than a particular vehicle. Officials from the Ministry of Surface Transport and the Ministry of Power’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency said these changes would bring India’s fuel efficiency rules in line with norms prevalent in the U.S. and European countries. Internationally, these parameters are referred to as corporate average fuel economy or CAFE standards. (November 18, 2010)
