Imported diesel cars surpass 20% of total import sales

Sales of imported diesel-fuel cars accounted for more than 20% of total import sales in South Korea last year as consumers increasingly opted for diesel vehicles, industry data showed. Last year, sales of imported diesel cars stood at 13,665 units, accounting for 22.4% of the market, according to data by the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association. Volkswagen’s Golf TDI 2.0 model topped the 2009 sales list of imported diesel cars with 1,361 units sold. Total sales of imported cars in South Korea fell 1.1% last year from a year ago, amid weakened consumption caused by a prolonged economic slump, the association said. (January 15, 2010)
