The Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIPL) in Dehradun, hopes to commercialize a waste-to-fuel project within18 months, IIPL Director M.O. Garg said. Garg said that a demo-unit will be ready in eight months. IIPL has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in India, and Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in the U.S.A. to work on the combustion characteristics of future fuels and engine development. Vice President of SWRI Bruce B. Bykowski said that the three-year strategic alliance agreement would lead to the development of novel technologies in fuel research and engine development projects. According to him, engine, vehicle and emissions research and development was growing in India. “The strategic alliance with IIP will help accelerate this trend in India and for potential export,” he said. The agreement also encourages SwRI to support CSIR and IIPL in developing lubricant evaluation facilities. (January 22, 2011)
