Idemitsu, Cosmo to sell “Green Power” certificates
Idemitsu Kosan Co. and Cosmo Oil Co. both plan to start selling green power certificates at gasoline stations as early as Fiscal Year 2010. Green power certificates indicate that the purchasing company or individual has used power generated from renewable sources. To obtain these certificates, the two firms are installing solar power systems at gas stations to supply electricity to power the stores and for charging electric vehicles. They are also installing LED lighting, which consumes little power. Based on these achievements, they will apply to issue green power certificates. Certificates acquired will be securitized and partitioned for retail sale to people using chargers for electric vehicles. (September 1, 2009)
