Hyundai mulls electric vehicles
South Korean (SK) automaker Hyundai Motor Co. remains hopeful about the U.S. car market, due to its successful run last year with the premium Genesis sedan and coupe line, which it rolled out with a high-profile marketing campaign to coincide with the Beijing Olympics. It said that it is looking at the possibility of adding electric vehicles to its lineup in the country. An electric version of Hyundai’s Getz, the company’s first electric car, is already on sale in SK, New Zealand and Australia. The company is being selective about its launches in the U.S., and so will be launching there a gasoline-electric hybrid version of its Sonata sedan only in the latter half of 2010.The automaker said it is also considering bringing the Equus, a large luxury car sold in South Korea, to the United States.
