Hydrogen fuel station opens in Seoul

A hydrogen service station for the refilling of fuel cell vehicles opened in Seoul, South Korea. GS Caltex held a ceremony for the completion of the hydrogen fuel station, with a total floor space of 522 square meters at Yonsei University’s Shinchon Campus, with some 200 dignitaries attending. Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Kim Young-ju, GS Caltex Chairman & CEO Hur Dong-soo and Yonsei University President Jung Chang-young were present at the ceremony. “We will continue to do this business with a sense of duty, though we cannot expect much profit from it,” Hur said. Some 8.5 billion won (US$9.3 million), including 4 billion won (US$4.4 million) of government money, was invested in the construction of the station. South Korea’s first hydrogen fueling station opened in August last year at the Korea Institute of Energy Research in Daejeon. (September 13, 2007)
