Honda’s new scooter engine is 25% more efficient

Honda Motor Co. has developed a new 125cc scooter engine that is 25% more efficient than existing models. The higher rate of fuel efficiency was achieved by reducing internal friction and boosting the engine’s cooling performance. Honda will use the new engine in its 125cc-class scooters which will be on sale worldwide next year. The company said it plans to mass-produce the engine in Indonesia, Thailand and other markets where there is a high demand for scooters. The move is seen as a way to bring down production cost while solidifying its top market share in those countries. The larger models are becoming more popular in emerging countries, where income levels are rising. (September 26, 2011)
