Honda to launch diesel cars in India ahead of schedule
As petrol prices rise and push down sales of petrol-powered cars, Japanese carmaker Honda revealed plans to launch its first diesel cars in India by the first half of next year. Honda said its diesel versions were originally scheduled to be launched by 2014, but with the frequent increases in petrol prices, the company decided to launch the diesel cars ahead of schedule. Honda Siel Cars India is expected to roll out diesel models of its Brio, as well as a Brio sedan, during the first half of 2013. City diesel will be launched later in October. The company said it will also launch the new Jazz hatchback with a diesel powertrain. Honda reported sales of 54,427 units from 2011-2012, an 8.46% decline compared to 2010-11. (June 12, 2012)
