Honda to launch Accord Hybrid in Japan in June
Honda Motor Co. said it will launch the Accord Hybrid in Japan in June.
The new Accord midsize sedan has the world’s highest fuel efficiency in the same class, achieving 30 kilometers per liter (70.56 mpg) of gasoline, compared with the 23.4 kilometers per liter (55.04 mpg) of rival Toyota’s Camry Hybrid.
The upcoming Accord is equipped with a newly developed gasoline-electric hybrid system that has two electric motors, one for spinning wheels and the other for generating electricity, unlike Honda’s existing system with one motor to assist a gasoline engine, the company said.
Further details, including the price and specifications, will be announced on June 20, it said.
The Accord sedan is Honda’s mainstay brand, selling about 600,000 units globally in 2012. The company released the gasoline-only version of the new Accord in North America in September 2012.
