Honda invests US$428 million for UK plant expansion

Japanese car giant Honda has added £267 million (US$428 million) to its investment in its Swindon plant in the United Kingdom; this move represents the biggest single investment for the site in more than 10 years. Around 500 new jobs have been created to boost production of a new Civic, new CR-V models, and a new 1.6 liter diesel engine.
Honda’s investment in the 370-acre Swindon site is now at £1.5 billion (US$2.4 billion). The automaker plans to double production at the plant to 183,000 units by the end of the year, rising to 250,000 in three years’ time. This is in anticipation of the company’s goal for 60% of production to be exported to 60 countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australia. (September 6, 2012)
