Haima Automobile aims at new energy car models

China’s FAW Haima Automobile Co. Ltd. has developed into a large-scale passenger vehicle-manufacturing firm with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. As such, it has decided to pay more attention to new energy and independently-made engines in the near future, for the sake of upgrading its core technologies and self-developed brands. The company said it will make its engines come up to standards in line with China’s automobile industry adjustment and revitalization plan. Along with the improvement of its three key engine platforms, Haima Automobile said it will focus on the integrated research and development (R&D) of engines, transmissions, and electricity control systems. Haima Automobile will develop a 55 kilowatts, 1.5 liter gasoline engine in compliance with the Euro V emission standard. It is also working on the development of lithium battery-based electric cars and super capacitor cars and added it will develop electric and hybrid vehicles by 2010. (April 7/8, 2009)
