Gull launches E10

Australia’s Gull Petroleum has stolen the march on its larger oil company rivals, launching New Zealand’s first publicly available biofuel blend at three of its Auckland service stations. Fonterra is supplying Gull with the bioethanol, which it manufactures from whey, the liquid remaining after milk has been curdled and strained. Gull New Zealand General Manager Dave Bodger said Gull was setting the pace in New Zealand and showing its commitment to sustainability and a cleaner environment. The Motor Industry Association (MIA) says 95% of all new cars in New Zealand will run on E10 (fuel containing 10% bioethanol) with no problems. (August 2, 2007)
