Guam drivers spending less on fuel
Guam’s reduced collection of revenue from the liquid fuel tax–which applies to gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel–mirrors a shift in local spending habits, according to the highlights of an audit report. The liquid fuel tax collection declined by US$325,000 to US$9.4 million in Fiscal 2009 compared to the previous year, according to a report released by the Office of Public Accountability. For every gallon of gasoline purchased, 11 U.S. cents goes to the Territorial Highway Fund’s operating fund, to pay for debt payment and highway-related expenses, including road repairs.
