GS Caltex starts commercial production at new plant

South Korea’s GS Caltex Corp. said it has started commercial production in December of higher-priced and cleaner-burning diesel fuel at a new plant in Yeosu in South Jeolla province, which was completed on November 15. The new plant is able to desulfurize 70,000 barrels of diesel fuel a day, which increases the firm’s total desulfurization capacity to 260,000 barrels a day. “Thanks to the completion of the fourth desulfurization unit, we will be able to meet the needs of eco-friendly products,” an official said. The new unit is also able to desulfurize diesel fuel to be produced at the third heavy oil upgrading plant, which is also being built in Yeosu. (December 9, 2008)
