Green vehicles becoming popular in China
According to China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, more than 300,000 alternative fuel-powered vehicles were being used in the country by the end of June. With that number of vehicles in China using alternative fuels, more than three million tons of gasoline and diesel fuel would be saved in a year, said Zhang Zhihong, an official from the ministry. With the development of new energy auto technologies, about 1,000 electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles are operating in the cities, he said. China has built intelligent traffic management systems and public traffic service systems in major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing and Guangzhou, he added. (July 2, 2009)
