GM to test advanced engines on biodiesel
Following European rival Daimler Chrysler, U.S.-based automaker General Motors will test its advanced automobile engines on biodiesel being developed by an Indian research institute. “As part of a two-year project, General Motors will be testing and evaluating the performance of their most advanced and futuristic automobile engines on the biodiesel developed by our institute,” said Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) Director Pushpito K Ghosh. Studies conducted on two Mercedes Benz cars under this project revealed that biodiesel was superior to hydrocarbon-based diesel in terms of emission, torque and mileage, Ghosh said. (July 29, 2007)
