GM to make available new dexos™ engine tests to ILSAC

General Motors’ Eric Johnson said that GM would make available to ILSAC, the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee, new engine tests for GM’s dexos™ specification that the company is developing to replace those that may no longer be available by 2012-2015. Speaking at the 17th Annual Fuels & Lubes Asia Conference in Singapore on March 10, Johnson discussed replacement tests that will have to be developed for the dexos™ spec, which was introduced for diesel engines in Europe in 2010 models and in non-diesel engines in North America and Europe in 2011 models. The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) in the U.S.A. and other industry groups have recently asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate alleged anti-competitive and deceptive practices by GM with its newly launched dexos™1 engine oil. Warranties require continued use of engine oils meeting the dexos™ spec. (March 10,2011)
