GM introduces future way of driving, life
America’s General Motors Co. revealed its plan to develop new emission-free vehicles that it said could completely change the landscape of the global automobile industry. At the heart of the plan is a new concept car, the EN-V or Electric Network Vehicle, which was showcased at a joint pavilion of GM and its strategic Chinese partner, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC), at the Shanghai World Expo. The vehicle is already fully functional, complete with GPS and network systems that allow crash-free autonomous driving by automatically keeping a safe distance between connected vehicles. GM says, however, that it will not be able to commercialize it until about 2030, when all the necessary infrastructures are in place. (October 21, 2010)
