GM India's powertrain facility to be operational by mid-November

General Motors India has announced that it is gearing up to kick off the first phase of its engine manufacturing operations at its Talegaon facility near Pune in Maharashtra, western India, by the second week of November. The plant, set up at a cost of US$ 10 million, has a capacity to produce 160,000 petrol and diesel engines for mini-cars in the first phase and an additional 140,000 engines in the second phase. The Indian arm of the American auto giant has maintained that it will be producing powertrains between 1.0-1.5 liters in terms of engine size, and would be the first such facility dedicated to both petrol and diesel engines after the enhancement goes as scheduled.
