GM India seeks incentives for eco-friendly cars

General Motors India (GM India), a subsidiary of General Motors Corp., is seeking incentives for customers who are driving cars on alternative fuel and also looking at the option of tax rate reductions. The automaker is taking this step to encourage adoption of such eco-friendly vehicles. The company aims to sell around 5,000 vehicles in 2010. According to General Motors India President and Managing Director Karl Slym, “There are three things that have to happen to change people’s mind from just fossil fuels. The vehicles have to be available. We as producers need to do that. The government needs to make sure that it is incentivized for both the producers and the consumers.” (January 6, 2009)
