Global investments in clean energy down by 18%

Global investment in the clean energy sector during the first quarter of 2012 amounted to US$59.6 billion, 18% less than last year. China’s investments brought in US$18.3 billion, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). The total figure was 24% higher than the preceding quarter; and China’s quarter-on-quarter increase was 92%, due largely to a number of large wind and solar projects. Europe’s clean energy investments reached US$20 billion; and the U.S. spent US$10.2 billion. (July 11, 2012)
