GFI to begin operations of Philippines’ largest bioethanol plant

The Philippines’ largest bioethanol plant owned by Green Futures Innovation (GFI) will begin operations in May 2012 according to the company’s President, Reynaldo Bantug. The US$138.2 million dollar plant is a fuel-grade bioethanol and co-generation plant. The plant is located at San Mariano in Isabela province in Northern Philippines. GFI is a joint venture comprising Japan’s Itochu, JGC, Taiwan’s GCO and Philippine Bioethanol and Energy Partners. The 54 million liter per year sugarcane-based plant was initially scheduled to be started up in February 2012. It can also produce 100,000 MW of electricity annually at its adjoining co-generation unit. (February 21, 2011)
