Geely Mobil to produce low-cost green cars
PT Geely Mobil Indonesia (GMI) said that its parent company Geely, headquartered in China, is interested in the Indonesian government’s program of producing low-cost green cars. Geely is preparing its IG (intelligent Geely) model to join in the project, said Richard Yang, director of GMI. The IG hybrid uses a 998cc gasoline engine and electric motor and is sold for about US$2,200 in China. With import duty and other levies the price could be higher in Indonesia, said Yang. If the project fails, GMI will focus on developing multi-purpose vehicles to enter the Indonesian market next year, Yang said. (August 19, 2010)
