GE expands workshop in Malaysia

General Electric (GE) Malaysia is expanding its aircraft engine overhaul and service maintenance workshop in Subang at a cost of US$5 million. The workshop, under GE Engine Services Malaysia (GEESM), will also have the additional capability of repairing and overhauling CFM56-5B engines, a high-performance, low-risk engine. GE Vice-Chairman John G. Rice said the expansion was to meet the growing infrastructure demands worldwide. Rice, who is also president and CEO of GE Infrastructure, said the expansion at GEESM would see a further US$3 million invested over the next three years to generate US$50 million in revenue. “The investments will offset the projected drop in performance from older product lines and keep GEESM on the leading edge of aircraft engine maintenance repair and overhaul,” he said.
