Fujitsu to help Chinese truckers cut CO2
Fujitsu Ltd. will start selling digital tachographs in China as early as next year as a first step towards helping trucking companies reduce their carbon dioxide emissions, according to The Nikkei. In buses and trucks, the tachographs record speeds, driving hours, and other data that helps firms manage their drivers. Some are now also being used to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions through such functions as voice instructions for smoother driving. Fujitsu says that using the tachographs can cut emissions by around 10%. Chinese sales of the company’s digital tachographs will be handled by Transtron Inc. The Fujitsu subsidiary plans to begin sales activities in Guangzhou and other parts of southern China, targeting autoparts distributors and others. The devices will likely sell for around ¥100,000 to ¥200,000 (US$1,207 to US$2,415). Fujitsu is hoping for sales of thousands of units within three years. (November 30, 2010)
