Fuji Heavy Industries to upgrade equipment for production of new boxer engine
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., manufacturer of Subaru vehicles, announced that it will be upgrading equipment at the company’s Oizumi plant in the Gunma Prefecture, in order to have in place new production lines for a new boxer engine. The new engine, which features higher fuel efficiency, will be used in all of the company’s model eventually. In addition, the company will increase production capacity for its mainstay engine to 820,000 units per year by 2015, an increase of 160%. The company has set as its goal to sell 900,000 vehicles globally in 2015. The capacity for producing continuously variable transmission systems will be doubled to between 700,000 to 800,000 units.
