FuelWatch: Perth has lowest petrol price

Australia’s competition watchdog has found that Perth motorists are paying less than their eastern states counterparts, prompting Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to launch a rearguard defense of his controversial petrol policy. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission recently released an analysis of the states’ price monitoring system. It showed that even when fuel is at its lowest point in the price cycle, unleaded petrol is A$0.07 (US$0.07) a liter cheaper in Perth than other capital cities. On the day when petrol is at the top of the price cycle, it is A$0.35 (US$0.33) a liter cheaper in Perth. On average for the remaining five days of the week, prices in Perth were A$0.18 (US$0.17) a liter cheaper. (May 30, 2008)
