Fuel economy not a priority for Singapore, HK motorists

Singaporean motorists are among the least concerned about fuel economy, according to a survey of 3,326 motorists conducted by Royal Dutch Shell in 11 countries, including Australia, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, and the U.K. The study is part of Shell’s global initiative to help motorists save 10% or more of their fuel. Only 15% of Singaporean respondents took measures to improve mileage, compared with the survey average of 37%, with Hong Kong coming in second to the last at 25%. Overall, the main motivation for improving fuel economy was cost savings. (July 14, 2007)
