Finnair to fly longest commercial biofuel flight to date

Finnair will fly its first biofuel flight from Amsterdam to Helsinki, marking the world’s longest commercial biofuel flight to date. Kati Ihamaki, vice president of sustainable development at Finnair said โ€œWe want to be a pioneer in sustainable development in air transport. Engine emissions account for the biggest environmental impact of flying, so investing in research into alternative fuels is a natural way to try to reduce the load on the environment.โ€ Finnair is using 50% biofuel made from recycled vegetable oil supplied by SkyNRG. Finnair plans to fly at least three Amsterdam-Helsinki flights using the 50% biofuel blend in both engines. (July 14, 2011)
