ExxonMobil completes upgrade of Birkenhead terminal
ExxonMobil Australia has finished the A$1 million (US$1.053 million) expansion of its Birkenhead terminal at Port Adelaide, South Australia, boosting its capacity by 10%.
A new nine million liter diesel fuel tank at the 15-hectare joint Mobil- and Shell-owned site at Port Adelaide increases its overall capacity to 89 million liters.
ExxonMobil Australia spokesman Alan Bailey said growing demand for diesel fuel, particularly from the state’s mining sector, prompted ExxonMobil to upgrade the terminal’s capacity.
“The demand for diesel fuel from our terminal in Adelaide continues to grow,” he said.
Birkenhead handles the greatest annual volume of petrol, diesel fuels and aviation fuels of any terminal in South Australia.
It has extensive road and rail loading gantries that support distribution throughout the state and into areas of New South Wales and Central Australia.
