ExxonMobil completes steam cracker expansion

In March this year, ExxonMobil Chemical completed the expansion of its steam cracker on Jurong Island, Singapore, raising the plant’s ethylene production capacity by 9% or 75,000 metric tons per year to more than 900,000 metric tons per year. Ethylene is a basic building block for a variety of chemicals and plastics. ExxonMobil operates an integrated petrochemical and refinery complex on Singapore’s Jurong Island. The Singapore refinery has a nameplate capacity of 605,000 barrels per day, while the Singapore Chemical Plant is ExxonMobil Chemical’s single largest investment in Asia Pacific which started up in 2001 at an investment of US$2 billion. Currently, ExxonMobil Chemical is conducting a feasibility study on a possible second world-scale steam cracker on Jurong Island in Singapore. (March 26, 2007)
