EU to impose carbon tax on airlines by 2012

According to the European Union’s (EU) Green Sky plan, all airline companies with routes entering or operating inside the EU will face a carbon tax from 2012. Altogether, there are 33 Chinese carriers on the EU list. Chinese airlines have to seek measures to curb cost increases arising from EU’s mandatory carbon footprint labels. Al Bryant, vice president of Boeing China operations for Research & Technology, says Boeing will help airlines improve fuel efficiency, promote the development of biofuel and use lighter engines and aircraft materials.
