Ethanol plant receives go signal from Burdekin Council
Mona Park in north Queensland, Australia is soon to see the establishment of a A$200 million (US$199.5 million) ethanol plant as it has finally received an approval from the Bourdekin Council. Director Geoff Cox says the plant aims to source about 900,000 tons of cane for processing only from local producers. “The logistical carting distance is the constraint on how far you can spread this so we don’t have the ability to take cane from all parts of the Burdekin,” he said. A tight supply group within 7.5 kilometers from the mill has also been created. Cox says the facility is due to open in time for the 2013 cane harvest. (February 11, 2011)
