EPA certifies five Brazilian ethanol plants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has certified five Brazilian sugar and ethanol plants as advanced renewable fuels producers. These plants include the Central Energética Vale do Sapucaí Ltda., which is controlled by the U.S. agribusiness group Cargill, and plants of sugar and ethanol cooperative Copersucar S.A. Joel Velasco, representative of Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) in the U.S., voiced his belief that other Brazilian plants will also receive EPA certification. (September 15, 2010)
