EasyJet uses revolutionary nano technology coating on aircraft

EasyJet has begun using an ultra thin coating of a polymer that cross links and bonds to the paint surface of planes helping to reduce drag on the surface of the planes. By reducing the drag on the aircraft wings through reducing the build-up of debris, there is a 1-2% savings in fuel consumption. This nano technology coating is already being used on U.S. military aircraft. Currently, EasyJet has coated eight aircraft. They will be studying the results of fuel consumption with the rest of the fleet of 194 planes during a 12-month trial period. EasyJet since its inception in 1995 is known for trying to keep costs down and improve efficiency. According to a company announcement, over the last 10 years, EasyJet has been able to reduce CO2 emissions per passenger km by 25% through investments in technology. (February 23, 2011)
