Doosan seeks to be eco-friendly

Doosan Group, one of Korea’s largest conglomerates, is striving to chalk up fast growth through eco-friendly strategies in such emerging fields as wind power, nuclear power and fuel cells. Based on its technological prowess built up through brisk mergers, the Seoul-based group developed 3 megawatt offshore wind turbines, the WinDS 3000TM, in 2006, the first in Asia. Doosan Heavy Industries, one of the flagship affiliates of the group, has commissioned a pilot program with prototype turbines in Jeju and plans to commercialize them later this year by installing them on shallow seabeds. “We have found that the turbines are commercially viable after conducting full-year tests in Jeju. We will install them in the sea to generate electricity as soon as we win contracts,” a Doosan spokesman said. (April 20, 2010)
