DOE to set gas standards
The Department of Energy (DOE) will consult concerned stakeholders on a draft department circular that will implement the Philippine National Standard (PNS) specifications for unleaded motor gasoline, also known as PNS/DOE QS001:2009. According to the draft guidelines, the PNS/DOE QS001:2009 is being promulgated to primarily establish a distinction between conventional gasoline and ethanol-blended gasoline or E-gasoline. At the same time, giving this distinction will “address the concern on the compatibility of E-10 gasolines on in-use vehicles, particularly on the engine and fuel systems.” Under the draft guidelines, only conventional gasoline complying with PNS/DOE QS001:2009 shall be sold, offered for sale, dispensed or introduced into commerce in the Philippines starting November 3 this year. The DoE will also require all company dealers and operators of gasoline stations to comply with labeling requirements. (October 9, 2009)
