DEDE plans to establish Thailand as biofuel hub  

Thailand’s Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) plans to establish Thailand as the regional hub of biofuel and aims to increase the ratio of biofuel usage to the total usage of alternative energy from 2.6% to 4.1%, in accordance with the 15-year alternative energy development plan. DEDE also aims to increase alternative energy production by 25% by 2022 and promote the use of millet and seaweed as a fuel source. DEDE Deputy Director General Thavarat Sutabutr said the energy will be mainly generated by processing crops such as sugar cane, tapioca and oil palm. (August 19, 2010)
