Daimler introduces two new luxury vehicles in India

Daimler AG recently introduced two new luxury vehicles under the Mercedes Benz brand into the Indian market.  The new GL 500 SUV with a 3.5 liter gasoline engine will retail at US$183,000, while the new SL 350 sedan with a 5.4 liter gasoline engine will start at $220,259.  India is seeing a new demographic of young entrepreneurs who are looking for super luxury vehicles.  Daimler entered the automotive market in India, Asia’s third largest auto market more than 15 years ago, and recently lost its position as the market leader to BMW.  In an effort to regain its top position, Daimler has been introducing more luxury models to attract the affluent in India.  In 2010, Mercedes Benz India sold 5,819 vehicles, which is an increase of 80%, from 2009.  Maserati SpA, Ferrari SpA and S&T Motors Co. are the newest international entrants to the automotive market in India.
