Daihatsu develops mini-vehicle with hybrid-class fuel efficiency

Daihatsu Motor Co. said that it has developed a mini-vehicle that is comparable with a hybrid vehicle in fuel economy. Daihatsu used lightweight materials for the seats and other parts of the e:S. Its engine is fitted with a Daihatsu-developed combustion control system, as well as an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology and an idling stop system. The company will exhibit the four-seater at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show to be held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, east of Tokyo, from late October to early November. Daihatsu is considering putting the e:S on sale, but the timing of the release has yet to be decided, a company spokesman said. (October 7, 2009)
