CPC to plant jatropha in Borneo

Taiwan’s state-owned CPC Corp. will cultivate jatropha curcas for biodiesel production in Indonesia, the company said. CPC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Induk Kud, a national cooperative of Indonesian farmers and fishermen. Under the deal, CPC will plant 100,000 hectares (ha) of jatropha in Eastern Kalimantan on Borneo island over the next five years. The company expects to yield 350,000 tons (772 million pounds) of jatropha oil per year and 2 million tons of carbon credits, equivalent to 20% of CPC’s annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
