Cosan, Amyris create renewable base oils JV
Brazilian sugar and ethanol giant Cosan and U.S.-based Amyris have reached a binding agreement to create a joint venture for the global development, production and commercialization of renewable lubricating base oils. A preliminary deal had been announced in June. Initially, the joint venture will source farnesene from other Amyris production facilities. The companies will share the marketing and operating costs. Amyris already has a joint venture with Brazil’s Sรฃo Martinho, where farnesene will also be produced. During the second phase of the agreement, Cosan and Amyris plan to produce base oils by converting sugar cane into farnesene. (December 16, 2010)
