Continental to open new factory in India

Continental AG says it plans to invest €50 million (US$72.4 million) until 2013 to expand its tire manufacturing operations in India. The German auto parts supplier will build a factory for car and truck radial tires in India, which will be operational by the second half of 2013. Also included in the expansion program is the doubling of the production capacity for cross-ply bus and truck tires to 1 million units a year. The new plant will be built in Modipuram in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, where the company now produces cross-ply tires for buses and trucks. (August 24, 2011)
