COFCO Biomass Energy to complete Phase II by year-end

China National Cereals, Oil and Foodstuffs Corp. (COFCO) will have the largest biomass energy base in South China, upon completion of the construction of Phase II of the Guangxi COFCO Biomass Energy Co. Ltd. by year-end. Phase II involves an investment of 230 million yuan (US$34.27 million). It will produce quality edible alcohol and anhydrous alcohol for industrial use. Phase I, which became operational in December 2007, at a cost of 750 million yuan (US$111.75 million), is capable of producing 200,000 tons of ethanol and 50,000 tons of feed from cassava per year.
