CNPC to complete Jilin expansion by October

The expansion of China National Petroleum Corp.’s 7.5 million metric ton per year (MTPY) Jilin refinery to 10 million MTPY is expected to be completed by October 2010, local media reported. The 2.55 billion yuan (US$373 million) investment project includes the construction of a new 6 million MTPY crude distillation unit, a 1.4 million MTPY catalytic cracking unit, a 1.6 million MTPY gasoil hydro unit, a 1.2 million MTPY gasoline hydro unit, a 600,000 MTPY gas fractionation unit and a 20,000 MTPY sulfur recovery unit. The expansion, which began in March 2009, was more than half complete by the end of February, reports said. Once the new units come on stream, the refinery will scrap an existing 3.7 million MTPY CDU and a 700,000 MTPY catalytic cracking unit, and also idle a 250,000 MTPY gas fractionation unit. The refinery will process domestic Daqing crude oil and imported crude oil from Russia. (March 4, 2010)
