Clean energy investments in Indonesia reach US$1 billion in 2011
Investments in Indonesia’s clean energy sector in 2011 went up by 520% in annual terms to more than US$1 billion due mainly to the country’s increased attention to geothermal resources. In a market report, Pew Charitable Trusts said Indonesia has an estimated 40% of the planet’s geothermal energy resources. At the end of 2011, the country installed a total of1.2 GW renewable energy, including 1 GW of geothermal power. The country also produces approximately 2,437 million liters of biodiesel annually. Indonesia is aiming at a geothermal energy capacity of 19.5 GW by 2025 and wind capacity of 970 MW, as well as a solar power capacity of 870 MW. (April 13, 2012)
